What's driving the driver?

'I like to be thrilled and I like to be excited  But more than that I like to know the how and why of what thrills me. I want to control and be able to have the skills to generate my own excitement. When I take on a car I want to extend it to what I think is exciting. If I have to mess about with it a little I'm willing to put in the time and effort needed. Because when a car leaves the factory gate it's development story hasn't ended, it's only just begun.' Unfortunately no-one we interviewed in the video said this.

Car building has an aura of secrecy about it, not because it has any mystery attached, it's just that it is a major industrial and social phenonmenon that is almost without descriptive words. If the eskimos have 23 words to describe snow how many words do we have to describe the various types of front mudguard ( fender - wing )? Not enough!

There are at least three major human endeavours that seem exist way beyond the current reaches of sociological and scientific explanation. These are films, cars and music.

These cars are about history, society, dreams, achievements and release - all funnelled through the hands of gifted individuals. And individuality is the key word. These car builders are not afraid to rethink the idea. To go back and meddle with the assembly line now so far away in time.
